Budget Brew: Mono-White Servos

Servo461

Howdy Budget Brewers! It's that time of the week for us to take a gander at some of the more budget options we can play at our local FNM's. While our main goal is ultimately to just have some fun, it's all gravy if we're able to win some matches as well. It's true, janky combo's are my bread and butter but I've been known to sprinkle in a dash of control or a smidgen of aggro. Then, sometimes a smattering of something in between the two. We tackle new and exciting ways to play that's easy on our wallet, and can have some fun at the local level!

With new sets, and two Standard big tournaments in the books I've been playing around with Standard like crazy. Last week we had U/B Summonings, which I think is actually going to be my go-to Standard deck for this coming Game Day. This week? Well, we're all aboard the Standard train!

CHOO! CHOO!

We're going to look at the Thopter's little brother, the Servo! He might not have flying, but he is able to attack a little easier than the thopters, and since we now have Ornithopter in Standard, we're going to play around with the two.

The deck comes perfectly under budget around $70 at TCG Market Price, which leaves you plenty of pennies (if you're not Canadian) to build your Sideboard.

We're playing a Tokens strategy this week, which I'm surprised we haven't seen any of over the past two weeks. Other than the 5 drop board wipes in White, there aren't too many board wipes being played at the moment.

This deck is going to prey on that. We're going to pop out little Servo's, buff 'em up with the numerous Anthem effects we have right now, and punch our opponent in the face.

Makin' Servo's!

These are our ways to make servo's. Servo Exhibition does it's best to play as Raise the Alarm but at Sorcery speed.

Sram's Expertise gives us 3 for 4, but has that added bonus of playing a card from our hand for free. Which can lead to all sorts of things. It could lead to bonus Servo's, or a possible free anthem effect bulking our little robots.

Master Trinketeer is a great mana sink for the late game where we're sitting with extra mana, we can just keep popping out robots to do our bidding.

Make 'em Strong!

Here's our three main ways of making our little 1/1's, and Ornithopter stronger. An early Metallic Mimic is a lot more valuable than a later one, while a Metallic Mimic into a Collective Effort a few turns later can be crippling to the opponent.

Chief of the Foundry is the less flashy of the three anthems, but he's a constant. Play him anytime and he'll be there to buff your team on a body that dodges Shock.

Extra Servo's?! Extra strong!

So, there's pretty good synergy with these two cards. Moreso in our deck than others because we're wanting to pump out as many servos as possible to flood the field.

Metallic Mimic already works to buff our team just by being on the field. It works with Animation Module in giving us a bit of a mana sink since we're always going to be putting +1/+1 counters on our creatures, for an extra mana we get a whole new body, with a whole new +1/+1 counter.

Sideboard

So, like usual, I left our Sideboard blank. I did leave us plenty of room in the $100 budget. I like to leave the Sideboard, since each meta is different and you never really know what you're going to need. I do have a couple of idea's though.

Because, while board wipes aren't the norm right now in Standard, decks like Jeskai Copy-Cat do play them in the SB. Selfless Spirit is our insurance against it.

Other idea's would include:

Upgrades:

As for upgrading the deck, I'm really not sure what we would want. Since we're playing white Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is a natural fit, since it seems like you're not playing White right if you don't include some number of him. What do we cut for it? I'm really not sure.

That's all I have this week. Thanks for joining me while I try to Untap the Multiverse!
