Daily Dose of Modern Masters 2017 – Fetchlands, fetchlands, fetchlands!

Welcome all to the first edition of the Daily Dose of Modern Masters 2017! There is a gap in Standard sets from Aether Revolt to Amonkhet, but luckily Magic provides us with an amazing set with Modern Masters 2017. Up until this week, there was complete radio silence on which cards were going to be reprinted in Modern Masters 2017. This led to a lot of speculation that this could be the worst Modern Masters set so far and a complete disappointment. I’m here to tell you, to get back onto the bandwagon and get ready for what is not only going to be a set full of valuable cards, but an amazing set to draft at your local store.

Today I want to talk to you about some of the amazing reprints at the Rare slot that I didn’t believe were coming, but are not only here, but ready to cause some major excitement. If the title of the article didn’t give it away already, prepare for the return of the Zendikar fetchlands!

Why is the reprinting of the Zendikar fetchlands so important? There was a growth in the Modern format started with the reprinting of the Onslaught fetchlands in Khans of Tarkir, as it allowed players to acquire these much-needed lands. Players have been asking for a reprint of the Zendikar fetchlands, because most of the players who play Modern today, weren’t playing the game let alone Modern when Zendikar came out. The large boom of Magic players started when Return to Ravnica came out, so having access to the Zendikar fetchlands will allow more players to join in the fun of playing Modern.

One of the most important things to have in a draft-focused set is to have some great synergy between some of the cards in the set. The following two reprints remind of a time where you could combine them to gain 10 life and have plenty of wonderful Beasts on the battlefield. Welcome back to two old friends, Restoration Angel and Thragtusk.

Why is having synergistic cards so important for a good draft set? Having different strategies already in place that work well together, help players with a direction of what cards they should choose when picking cards for their draft deck. Instead of just drafting the most valuable or best singular card, having draft synergies allows players to prepare for draft paths in advance so they can build their deck. It adds another layer to drafting that I enjoy immensely.

Lastly, I want to talk about a reprint of a card that sees a lot of play in Modern and that most players need a complete playset of. Here is a reprint of the great Goblin Guide.

Why is having cards that see a lot of play in current Modern decks important? The availability of cards that you need a playset of are so important to growing the Modern player base. Not only will the reprint of Goblin Guide and other cards from Modern Masters 2017 grow the player base, but it will also allow players to play a wider array of decks as well. These high in demand, low in stock at most stores reprints will make sure that coming back to draft Modern Masters 2017 will be on your radar.

Did I say that that was the last Rare card I wanted to preview? Well, maybe I did, so I’ll just leave you with one last picture of a card so in demand of a reprint, that players thought it was just never going to come.
